SCENE 1: A TIME OF DECEIT

Truth ceased to exist in the United States. The press and social media platforms had abandoned the concept of reporting the truth long ago. Television reporting went along and reported false news around the clock. Whomever paid them got their story printed or broadcast. There was no shame.

The lack of truth had also found its way into Government and the Judicial System. Lawyers regularly lied to the courts and judges accepted this behavior as appropriate. Judges’ clerks would influence a Judge’s decision in favor of the side that was paying them under the table. Politicians and bureaucrats lied to U. S. citizens with no regard for the needs or rights of citizens.

Society and Government functioned on lies. It didn’t take long before the lies led to a breakdown in Government. The United States Government could no longer support its citizens with basic services and security. Government reacted by becoming more autocratic while limiting the rights and freedoms of the people. Maintaining power was the sole objective of bureaucrats and politicians.

Government was able to maintain control but the people were beginning to reach a threshold point of rebellion. The Government refused to recognize that a threshold point was approaching.

Private companies, recognizing opportunities, capitalized on the inability of Government to deliver services and security to the people. They gradually took over the management of most services for which Government had formerly been responsible. The people had to pay private companies for these services as well as still pay the Government taxes for the services they no longer delivered.

The people were angry. But the Government bureaucrats and politicians didn’t care. So, little by little, small groups of citizens marshaled their will to combat the injustices to which they were subject.

This is the story of one rural group willing to rebel.

SCENE 2: BASIS FOR THE PLAN

The news and broadcast media that compromised the truth was primarily located in two major urban areas: Washington, D.C. and New York City: The New York Times, the Washington Post and the television broadcast and cable companies. These urban centers were populated by citizens that did not seem to mind the bastardization of news. They actually embraced it.

Because of this the media became bolder in its propaganda and untruths. The Government used all media as a propaganda vehicle. And the media embraced the Government’s wish that they become a propaganda vehicle for the Government.

There were some who voiced antagonism about this. Those who voiced discontent simply disappeared without a trace. This had a chilling impact on dissent. Outwardly it ceased to exist. Life in America had changed.

Secret dissent developed. People wanted to fight back. One small clandestine group formulated a plan. They would focus on the two major urban areas that were the center of the untruths: Washington, D.C. and New York City. They would make the urban propagandists gradually suffer for their actions.

Years ago, Maslow, a psychologist, had produced his hierarchy of peoples’ needs.

The hierarchy of peoples’ needs had five-stages:

  1. Biological and physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep.

  2. Safety needs - protection from the elements, security, order, law, stability, freedom from fear.

  3. Love and belongingness needs - friendship, intimacy, trust and acceptance, receiving and giving affection and love. Affiliating, being part of a group (family, friends, work).

  4. Esteem needs - which Maslow classified into two categories: (i) esteem for oneself (dignity, achievement, mastery, independence) and (ii) the desire for reputation or respect from others (e.g., status, prestige).

  5. Self-actualization needs - realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences. A desire “to become everything one is capable of becoming.”

Maslow suggested that human needs are arranged in a hierarchy, that each primary need must be satisfied before the next level can be pursued. The two basic and foundational needs are satisfying biological and physiological needs and security needs. So what better way of compromising urban propagandists than to hinder the ability of these people to satisfy basic needs. If basic needs cannot be satisfied, then the remaining needs cannot be satisfied or will be corrupted over time.

That could certainly disrupt elite society in these urban areas. Urban areas in which people knowingly supported the culture of deceit.

That is the overall approach our small rural group decided to adopt and act on. But first, such a plan required them to identify targets and formulate specific plans that would allow them to start to act and produce some results.

  SCENE 3: THE GROUP
<
br />   Our small group consisted of diverse individuals, western North Carolina residents, with a variety of skills. Each held the belief that those in power had compromised the Country by violating their oaths to uphold the law and the Constitution. For four decades they had watched this occur and had had enough.

Dan was a retired vehicle mechanic who had to close his garage because of health problems. He could fix anything from a tractor to a sports car. He had built a barn on his property as a shop and was still busy fixing vehicles for his old friends and customers.

Jeff, a farmer with a Harley, seemed to be able to grow anything. He was also an electrician who, when farming was slow, contracted out to local builders.

John, a lawyer, had experienced watching judges embrace untruths told by attorney friends of the judges. He watched these judges make decisions in favor of these friends that were counter to the law and facts.

Dick was a retired restauranteur with a history of clandestine government work.

Tom was a retired automotive production executive that had been responsible for running a number of automotive production lines.

Bill, a family doc and farmer, had watched the Government ruin the relationship between the physician and patient over the last four decades.

Our group consisted of pragmatic men. All in their 60’s and 70’s. They had all unsuccessfully attempted to seek change through the political process. Each had been politically active in their parties of choice. Each had encountered greed and stupidity in the politicians they encountered.

So, if change through the political process was unattainable then alternate routes had to be taken. After years of discussion, they decided to band together and act.

But first, they needed to come up with an initial plan of action.

  SCENE 4: THE INITIAL PLAN

February in the hills of western North Carolina is cold and damp. Tonight, the clouds hid any moonlight. So, driving down dark rural roads was challenging. The way to Bill’s barn was always a challenge. But, that is where tonight’s meeting was. As Tom approached the driveway gate to the barn area he flicked on his car lights to let them know that they should open the gate. That was the normal routine.

Of course, no one opened the gate. Tom called Bill’s cell phone and asked him to open the gate. Finally, the gate opened and he drove in.

As dim as the barn was, he was able to find everybody sitting around an old oak table in a corner of the barn. He took a seat and Bill said “Tom, better late than never. Let’s get to work.”

Tom thought to himself. “This barn is cold and damp. Why does he have us meet here? Why not the warm house?”

Bill, interrupting Tom’s thoughts. “We need an initial plan to get our message across.”

Dick asked. “What is our message?” Everyone looked at each other and all responded with “Yeah, what is our message?”

Bill responded with “Our message is simple. The American people deserve the truth. Period. We all have been complaining about the lack of truth in Government and the media for years. We all agreed to band together to affect change because of this. Our message should be simple. The American people deserve the truth is as simple as we can get. Agreed?”

  All responded “Agreed.”

Bill. “So, let’s put together the beginning of a plan.”

Dick interrupted. “How will we know if our plan and actions are successful.”

Bill responded. “When the bureaucrats, politicians and media start to tell the citizens of the U. S. the truth.”

Dick. “The truth can be different for many people. Take the Hillary Clinton server issue. It was obvious that Clinton violated the law, but a good chunk of the Country said that she had not. So, who was right? The Clinton supporters or the other side?”

Bill. “The only way to approach the truth is to look at the facts. In the Clinton case, the facts scream out that she broke the law. The law was clearly violated. That was the truth. There can be no valid disagreement about that.”

Dick. “Yeah, but the FBI Director stated that she did not break the law. So, who do we believe?”

Bill. “We believe the facts as applied to the requirements of the law. In this case it is simple. The law was intentionally violated by Clinton. The FBI Director was in the bag for Clinton and violated his professional and ethical duties by declaring that Clinton did not violate the law. The FBI Director and his staff rigged the system.”

  Dick. “Double standard of justice.”

  Bill. “Correct.”

Dick. “He tarnished the institution and justice system he was sworn to protect.”

Tom. “The media supported Clinton and hid the truth from the American people for as long as they could. The American people see this.”

Dan. “Some, not all. So, what is the plan?”

Jeff. “I think we can start with a manageable plan to test our ability to affect change. We want to implement actions that will force the media and Government to tell the truth to the American people. To do that we will have to attack multiple targets, each in unique ways in order to make them begin to change their behavior.”

Dan. “We will have to be ruthless. They will not change their behavior unless they are hurt and know why they were hurt.”

Jeff. “I think you are right, Dan. There cannot be any limiting rules. Anything goes.”

Bill. “Does everybody agree to that?”

  All responded with a “Yes.”

Bill. “So, the framework for our plan is to identify targets that can be persuaded to begin to tell the truth and to put together specific tactical plans for each target and execute the plans. Correct?”

Dick: “And to undermine those institutions and individuals that are fundamental to formulating and supporting the culture of deceit.”

Bill. “Correct. But, let’s start smaller for now.”

  All agreed.

Dan. “Let’s go inside and have a drink. I’m freezing out here in this barn.”

  SCENE 5: FIRST TARGETS

Bill. “Before we do that, let’s figure out who our first targets are going to be. Any ideas?”

Tom. “I think we should isolate on targets in Washington, D.C. and New York City. Again, we must concentrate our efforts.”

  Dan. “Who do you suggest?”

Tom. “I think we should go after those who are most notable for sending out lies in order to foster a political ideology. One Congressman and one media reporter come to mind.”

  Dan. “Who?”

Tom. “California Congressman Higby. He is constantly making up false allegations concerning the President in order to undermine the current administration. The other is the cable news reporter Lewis Feldman. He takes the lies that Congressman Higby espouses and repeats them on cable news almost nightly. The duo seems to be working in tandem. If you repeat a lie constantly, over time it begins to become credible. That seems to be their game”

Dan. “ I don’t like either of them.”

Bill. “What does everybody else think?”

Dick. “I think they are a good place to start. Everybody agree?”

  All responded affirmatively.

Bill. “OK, now how to influence them to begin to tell the truth?”

Dick. “Get some dirt on them. They publicly act unethically and immorally on a daily basis. They must think they are immune from any consequences. That behavior must carry into their private lives. Getting dirt on them should not be a problem.”

Dan. “We must figure out ways to compromise their ability to make a living and to feel secure.”

Tom. “They could be dangerous. We have to be careful.”

  Dick. “Right.”

Bill. “Dick, why don’t you and Tom start to dig up compromising information on these two.”

  Dick. “OK.”

Bill. “Let’s meet again in a couple of weeks to see what you found.”

  Dick. “OK.”

Dan. “Now, can we get out of this cold barn and go inside and h
ave a drink?”

  Bill. “Sure.”

SCENE 6: INITILAL FINDINGS ON TARGETS

Tom. “I got a lead on Congressman Higby. I called his ex-wife in California and she had a lot to say about him. I asked her if we could meet to discuss what she told me on the phone. She stated that she would be in Richmond, Virginia in a few weeks to see a law client. She agreed to meet with us in Richmond if we made it up there.”

  Dick. “What did she say?”

Tom. “Higby is a strange guy. Seems he has a lot of money, but no one can tell how he got it. She was married to him for a couple of years when she noticed strange behaviors. It seems he hardly ever slept for more than 3 to 4 hours. He was constantly out of the house during the night and returned before dawn. He lost interest in her quickly after the marriage. She could not figure what was going on. She does not like him. ”

  Dick. “Anymore?”

Tom. “Yes, she is afraid of him. She was brutalized by him on a number of occasions. She was too terrified of him to report the episodes. She just asked for a divorce and was thankful that she got it. She started to say something else but she decided not to continue her thoughts at that point.”

Dick “So, the Richmond meeting is on?”

Tom. “Correct. Oh, one more thing. I can find no history on Higby prior to his running for Congress. It must be out there, somewhere. I’ll keep looking.”
